Regardless of whether you want to go green to help the environment or save money, every step you take towards eco-friendly living is one that helps to make this planet more sustainable. We have a few sustainable living tips to get you started.

Why Should You Go Green?

Now more than ever, climate change, global warming, the depletion of the ozone layer, and resource depletion are issues impacting the future of our planet. Their impact on human and animal lives has proven to be detrimental. There is a huge opportunity for people to adapt to a more sustainable lifestyle that can help reduce the carbon footprint and harmful environmental impact by altering their lifestyle in the slightest ways.

Energy Conservation

Energy conservation is one of the most important things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint. Many of our apartments have oversized or floor-to-ceiling windows that make letting the natural light in easy. If you open up the curtains and turn the lights off, you could make large improvements. This is important for a few reasons:

    • Replacing bulbs requires more raw materials for manufacturing which includes the energy required to make, process, and transport the bulbs.
    • Replacing bulbs increases the energy and costs required to replace the bulbs.
    • Turning your lights off can help save energy, money and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Veggie Filled Fridge

Eating fruits and vegetables can help the environment in more ways than one. In addition to supporting local farms and agriculture, integrating just one meat-free meal per week can save approximately 133 gallons of water. According to The Vegetarian Society:

    • There are 2.5x less carbon emissions from eating a vegetarian diet than a meat diet
    • By eating vegetarian food for a year, you could save the same amount of emissions that a small car not driving for 6 months would

Did you know? One single chicken breast takes over 735 liters of water to produce. That could fill up your bathtub 4.6x!

Reuse, Reduce & Recycle

We provide recycling bins throughout the apartments to make recycling even easier. You can recycle almost everything, from batteries to paper to bottles. Before you throw it away, take a minute to find out if you could recycle it instead. We've listed a few unique ways to recyclable:
      • Places like Goodwill are the perfect local place to recycle anything from clothing to home goods to sports equipment
      • Local eyewear shops may collect used eyeglasses to recycle parts or lenses
      • Crazy Crayons recycles unwanted or broken crayons to create new ones
      • Places like Staples or BestBuy have programs so you can recycle empty ink cartridges
